Friday is like a coin. On one side there's an image... and on the other a picture of The Queen. Psychology and Liz have something in common - I don't like them (and Psychology claiming to be a science makes me laugh). I look forward to the afternoon, though, because I have John teaching Politics.
We've finished the Marxism part of the course bloc (except me, I didn't need to start :D), more correctly Marxism-Leninism and the state. Anyway, it's always necessary to point out to the false-counsciousers that Lenin had Russia try and skip an epoch of human development. This is only the start of the 2 year course, so any complexities I'd bring for everyone else by discussing Lenin's reasons would merely irritate those who only want to know what's necessary to pass the tests in order to get a bit of paper saying they "know" it (I have a French Standard Grade - General Level, but can I string a sentence together in French? Fuck no, when did learning a phrasebook mean you can speak a language?).
To get to the point, I had a brief discussion with John in which I asked if 'Leninism is defunct due to the demise of proper Imperialism?' and whether skipping an epoch is good/bad in a technologically advanced society such as ours (where labour should cease to exist).
John agreed that need to skip an epoch is no longer relevant since there are no feudal societies in the West anymore, but that you could possibly skip socialism and proceed straight to communism through full-automation of production. Notions of a vanguard party were dismissed without needing to say it, I'd think access to information through the internet is enough to educate anyone on anything - so ideally the population would not need to be lead.
