The next newspaper that makes a pun on the word 'snow' to decscribe the weekend weather can expect a small non-ticking package from me (modern bombs don't tick, you see). Anyway, that isn't representative of my current mood...
Having meant to watch The Breakfast Club for around 3 years, I finally watched it on BBC1 at 2300 on Saturday with my brother. Saturday largely passed me by. I had no idea it was snowing, nor that it was snowing so heavily - not the usual thing at this time of year (more of an early February thing for the past decade). By the end of the film, the snow was piling up against the windows. Before retiring for the night, I built a crude snowman on the outside windowsill - no taller than a new pencil. Having enjoyed the film, I retired to my room to obsess over the film on IMDB for an hour or two.

Arguments with the Taxpayer
What does the taxpayer know about intelligence? They work in challenging jobs which use up any thought potential they have, in calculating for the corporate fuckwits (who have the interest of the world at heart in the same way an amoeba is a loving parent), and they claim that I have to produce evidence that I'm learning at college because they're paying for it. If i want the fucking taxpayers opinion, I'll lobotomise myself and then get down to their level and converse. The tax payer is an idiot, bereft of the ability to remember what happened in politics the other week, and unfit to tell me that my politics are nonsense and that 'communism works in theory'. Have they ever even encountered a theory outside school? Do they even understand what theory is?: Concept > hypothesis > theory > fact, in increasing order of veracity.
I tell the taxpayers I'm intelligent; you only have to ask my lecturers and look at the essays I write in my own time. The taxpayer doesn't want to know because it wasn't marked, graded and filed. In effect, the taxpayer does not know anything. Go run to Pete Townsend and rock and roll's new corporate sponsors.

Almost (If I Get There I'd Find That I'd Change My Mind )
I can't remember what prompted it, but a whole host of memories from secondary school flooded my head yesterday evening - probably another wish to return to the security of compulsory education in light of my increasing irritation with college.
Egg Timer/Stream of Conscience
I woke up on Monday. Shit, what time is it? 12:30PM! Fuck, nobody woke me up - at least I had a good nights sleep. I hear the door open and everyone come in. They must be bringing the kitten back from the vets - having his testicles removed, don't you know? My brother comes in and tells me to wake up - to which I reply that I am awake - not that anybody bothered to wake me when I asked. Everyone leaves almost as soon as they got in. I'm wide awake and get up to open the curtains - hmm, that's odd... The Sun isn't in the usual place at this time and the shadows are awfully long. I went into the hall to see how the cat was... Hmm, the cat's not here. And the clock says 8:45AM. I go back to check my alarm clock - 0845. What? Why did it display 1230? Why did it display the time I used to get up on Friday? So it was 0845... I suddenly felt very tired and slept until 1430. Fuck, I meant to get up to go get more CD-Rs.

Iranian in the Membrane
Some thoughts on Iran:
Sanctions
Blair's mention of needless Iraqi deaths is a reference to the mass death of children under sanctions reported by the UN, human rights groups and aid agencies. In a recent Newsnight interview Blair argued that "because of the way he [Saddam] implements those sanctions" they are "actually a pretty brutal policy against the Iraqi people". (BBC2, Newsnight Special, February 6, 2003)
Media Lens
[Concerning sanctions against Iran] Obviously we don't rule out any measures at all.

Memories of Green

What brought a smile to my face? The Seagulls are back. I have memories of being up at 4AM during my first exam season and listening to all the birds waking. I especially find the seagulls calling down at the waterfront quite relaxing. It's like a rarity, not many people are up to hear them before the day star rises and floods the sky with blinding light. Their return marks the beginning of the sunny season...
