Iranian in the Membrane

Some thoughts on Iran:

Sanctions

Blair's mention of needless Iraqi deaths is a reference to the mass death of children under sanctions reported by the UN, human rights groups and aid agencies. In a recent Newsnight interview Blair argued that "because of the way he [Saddam] implements those sanctions" they are "actually a pretty brutal policy against the Iraqi people". [Concerning sanctions against Iran] Obviously we don't rule out any measures at all.

The faith TB shows in the compassionate side of the Iranian conservative leadership to not make sanctions something of a bad situation for the Iranian people is quite difficult to understand. Imagine if couples weren't allowed to hold hands in public or something horrible like that. One can only imagine...

Whilst searching for relevant quotes I found this transcript - interesting in itself for the amount of 'justifications' that have since turned out to be total shite.

Nukes

Whether you chose to believe Iran is/is not developing nuclear weapons technology from its civil research is up to you, but let's presume it is covertly enriching Uranium for nuclear weapons.

In kicking up such a fuss about a possible Iranian nuclear weapons programme, the West is labelling Iran a suicide state - for which Mutually Assured Destruction is inapplicable because Iran is the ultimate form of the suicide bomber. A state (or at least its President) so unbalanced as to start the nukes flying can't possibly be allowed to have nukes (even if they don't want them, as Iran continually states).

Whereas, of course, Pakistan is allowed to have them (surely the results of visitors from the future giving them the technology?)... and Saudi Arabia can pursue them all it wants without an international row erupting for three years and counting.

Cartoons

This is the closest the BBC has got to showing the cartoons:
